Thread: Which ports in Mexico are NOW still safe for cruisers?

    Yes, most of the tourist areas are presumed safe, except for Alcapulco and of course Mazatlan has warnings, and I think it should actually be red by now. As the murder rate keeps going up. It's really a shame. We've gone every year for the last several years and this year might just be our last.

    I wish the cruiselines would buy up some land and open private resorts like the caribbean.

    But often, most of the attractions are away from the actual port. Now, they could probably close off the port area, but it would have to almost be an armed encampment. And then, what do you do to keep the locals (except the ones you want) out? Checkpoints?

    That's true, I guess. I just don't know. It wouldn't have to be private but Mazatlan is an industrial port with armed gaurds as it is. I was just thinking if they built a tourist port near some nice beaches, like some of the caribbean ports we've been to it would be more appealing and passengers wouldn't have to venture so far out for excursions.
