Have you been to Xel-Ha or Xcaret?

Which do you prefer and why? And if you could only choose one, which would it be?

    Hello ladibugz,

I have been to both, we had done the tulum/xel-ha trip on the cruise and then when we went landlubber for two weeks in cancun, we went to both of them. I would say it has to do with your expectations, if you love to snorkel and go tubing, relaxing in the sun, eating good food, then xel-ha is the place for you, if you like seeing more wildlife, more of the history of the island and a fantastic show, then xcaret is for you. Both places offer great things to do. If you are doing this from a cruise ship, I would say Xel-Ha..... if staying for a week in Mexico....go to both!!!

I have been to all the tiny towns/resorts from Cancun to Tuluum, all of them are wonderful, great beaches, friendly people. The best food I found was in the tiny huts on the beach that had a bar and restaurant. The scenery is gorgeous, the beaches are the cleanest and best maintained, especially in comparison to the USA. Take your pick, I don't think you will be disappointed in any of them.

So, is the Tulum/Xel-Ha worth the $89/pp that carnival wants? I'm afraid that we will end up spending too much time at Tulum and not enough time at the beach! Anyone know if food and water are allowed in Tulum or are you expected to walk all that way without? Oh, and how much walking is it?

I did the Tulum/Xel-Ha excursion on my very first cruise. I remember it being a long ride, my first Corona, and not being impressed with the ruins. But I was young and stupid (22, maybe?). Xel-Ha is where this non-snorkler tried snorkling for the first time and came facemask to face with a grouper. Ex-hubby still laughs when he tells people all he saw of me was bubbles as I swam away.

I'd like to try it again though, now that I'm older and better able to appreciate the history.

Do they still not let you wear sunscreen at Xel-Ha?

Before you go on a cruise or anywhere in the carribean you should buy environmentally friendly suntan lotion, there are many places who ban regular suntan lotion as they hurt the fish and fauna...

If you do the Tulum/Xel-Ha you will spend alot of time at Tulum and what seems like not alot of time at Xel-Ha but I do believe it is about the same time at both places. I would want to go to just Xel-Ha if you could and skip Tulum.

I guess it depends on where you are pulling in at, I do not think I saw that but then again, was not looking

We are pulling into Cozumel but since we have seen all to see in the Playa De Carman/Cancun area, we are staying in Cozumel this time around.:headbang2
