Tulum-Calica- best transportation

Hi all! I am so excited to be heading for my first cruise in 2 weeks!!!!!

I have a question and you are my last hope to find the answers - so I am counting on you!!

We are planning to tour Tulum on our own. This should be simple enough, but I need to figure out transportation.

We'd rather not pay a cab if we can use the colectivos/vans or bus to get there. We know these options are readily available in Playa Del Carmen, but what about directly from the Calica port??

Do we have to (or should we) go into Playa Del Carmen to get transportation to Tulum? I just HATE the thought of going north to go south!

PLEASE HELP!

Don't know how you did, since your cruise is over. I didn't see your post before.

We did Tulum with a ships tour as it was a 7 hour tour. That included the ferry rides and the bus ride down and back. We only had 8 hours in port so we definitely wanted to be sure the ship waited for us if we were late.

My 2 cents...you would need to go out of Calica port (quite a little walk) and wait on the federal street for a colectivo to pick you up...Playa del carmen is only 5 minutes north and from there you can take a bus to Tulum...but there as well, until you get to the Ruins is another good walk...not sure but I guess would take a taxi or get together with others and take a van or book independantly...a guide in Tulum is certainly a plus, there are many things to discover of which you are not aware of if you go on your own...its worth it..good luck¨!
