Some cruise ships have port stops scheduled there: Carnival Spirit, RCCL Radiance of the Seas, and HAL Rotterdam ... could be others as well.

I would not be stopped visiting this lovely town. I have spent a lot of time in this area. The "troubles" so far have not involved any tourists or the usual tourist areas.
Oh, I forgot. Rather than take a tour. Walk around downtown and enjoy a beer or coffee(look for a location that actually sells coffee beans for your coffee). Take a small boat over to Las Gatas beach. Or go to La Ropa Beach and rent a small sail boat that will take you around the bay. My sister and I did this and it was so relaxing as our captain handled the work. It cost us $250 or about $25 US. You can parasail or ride a banana boat. The Picante is a larger catamaran that does sailing and snorkle rides. If you are interested I can look for their web site. We took their sunset cruise and loved it. The cap told us their snorkling trip is the best one.
Also, Zihuatanjeo is the correct spelling or this town.
