we are also looking to doing an excursion in ixtapa. i am wondering if anyone has done the ixtapa island getaway or the shopping and restort tour???? any info would be helpful or if anyone can recommend one that would be wonferful. thanks in adavance.

We have a place in Mexico nearby and often visit Zihua and Ixtapa for a little R & R.

If shopping is one of your objectives, then go to Zihua.Right near the dock and a couple of short blocks down from the dock that you are tendered to you will find the artisan's market place. These shops are better priced than the one in Ixtapa.

Ixtapa Island is not worth the boat ride over. Go shopping in Zihua and then if you want to spend some time on the beach go to La Ropa and enjoy a drink or two at one of the many places on the beach. La Ropa is a healthy walk from the pier but a short 30 peso taxi ride from the dock.

was there in january , zihua is a bit "rustic" but has good prices . seems to be cheaper than other ports o' call. only one bank though if you need cash.

Actuallly, there is more than one bank in Zihua but you have to be willing to walk a bit.

we took a water taxi over to las gatas beach and had a great time in ixtapa,
it was about 3$ per person each way,
shallow water, nice view of the ship and good food..

We took a cab ride to Ixtapa on our last cruise. There are lots of hotels/time shares. It was a nice area. I saw it and don't see a need to go back. If it were me I would not pay for an excursion to Ixtapa.

Melika mentioned las gatas beach. That I might try.

Zihua is another story. I have been there twice and love it. Lots of shops and nice people. It is one of my favorite ports.
