That's right! Since we live in Florida we can drive to Jacksonville, Tampa and Port Canaveral. Since we are in northern Florida we prefer to fly to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.....we aren't as young as we used to be! But who is?
We have the same situation as Char but that it is easy for us to get to the Port of Los Angeles (an hours drive). We have been on two MR cruises, in late January and in February. The weather for the sailaway and the first day at sea could be cool and perhaps rainy, especially if between October and March. As soon as you get much farther south, the temperatures will become warmer.
We are kinda burnt out on this itininary, but because we've been to them (PV, Matz. and Cabo) twice now. Also been on a few Baja cruises, which just went as far as Ensenada. I'm just not big on Mexico. But it is convenient for us.
Patty the Roving CLF Guide & Future Ya Ya Princess Stick Shift
We have done the Mex Riv 10 times and Baja 3. Most of them have been in January but we have also done September, March and April. This year we are doing it in late October. On the January trips it is usually a bit cool the first and last sea days, not as cool the other months. I don't think we have ever had more that on rainy day on any of the trips.
We take these trips for the ships more that the ports. Living on the west coast it is much easier to get the port that spending a day traveling each way to and from Florida.
It is hard to get enough time off to cruise SA, TA or Europe so we take a lot of west coast repos. We have also done Alaska many times because it is so easy from here.

I think what Char was saying is that they live in Florida and they can easily drive to a port instead of flying like I have to do.
Re Palm Springs, yes, its quite nice there in the winter. If you play golf you will love it. They also have some gorgeous shopping areas. Ritzy, but gorgeous. Take money!
Unfortunately, we do not golf. We like to walk and explore. Of course, I will hit those stores! How much I will be able to buy is another story!!!! We have reservations at the Best Western Las Brisas and also at the Hyatt Regency Suites. Are you familiar with them? Any feedback? Thanks!
Best Western Las Brisas is okay. Not my favorite BW. Pool area kinda small, but it does have a cabana bar. Breakfast is okay. Nothing special. BW is on the same block with a lot of "Rainbow" establishments. This might bother some folks.
Hyatt Regency is outstanding! It opens onto the Mall.
Both are downtown Palm Springs, our favorite. Easy to walk around, shop, & dine. Love Los Consuelos. Great food & drinks. Be sure to take in the "Follies" at the downtown theatre. It's fantastic too. There's a great deli one block north and east of Indian Ave. Don't remember the name but it sits a the corner opposite the Hilton. The Spa Hotel one block north of BW has a casino and spa open to the public. You might want to try them both.
Don't forget to take a trip up the mountain on the tram. Unbelievable sights.
I may answer this different after we get back for the Mexican Riviera in a few weeks but you have to know what you consider cold or hot, for each person that can be different. As for me I like my pool or ocean, as the case may be, to be bathtub warm the warmer the better. Eveyone else in the house leaves the pool in our backyard alone when the water temperature hits 85 this is when I think the pool is getting warm enough to finally use. I really love it when the water temp hits 90! So we have chosen to cruise iin Oct. so the ocean will be warm enough for me. In the later winter and spring the ocean water temperature in the Mexican Riviera is upper 60's to low 70's too cold for me. So if you like to do water activities and like warm water go for the fall. It is humid so it will feel hotter then the actual temperature. Fall temperatures are generally in 80's but here is what P.V. is right now. This is for 1:49 p.m. So if you like hot air and warm water do your cruise in the fall.Wind Calm Visibility 12 mile(s) Sky conditions overcast Temperature 86 F (30 C) Heat index 96.8 F (36.0 C) Dew Point 77 F (25 C) Relative Humidity 74%
If you are likely to want to do shore excursions that don't include water activity then you can avoid the worst of the heat and humidity by going in Jan. or Feb.
Zip line excursion or a hiking tour while the heat index is over 100 would be brutal. IMHO

I have done the Mex Riv two times now. The first was late January and the second was early February. How cold you think it is is more dependent on where you are coming from. If you are coming from cold snow country the first day out of LA or SD isn't too bad. To me it is sweater weather. The first day at sea can be cool but ZZKat and I have sunbathed anyway.
The water temps down in Cabo and farther south seem great to me. They are much warmer there in the winter then San Diego is in the summer.
We didn't have any rain or bad weather on either trip. It was perfect temps as far as I am concerned. We were in the water between Cabo and PV when there was an earth quake on land and it did make the water a little choppy to say the least.
I enjoy Mexico. It is a whole different feel and culture then the Caribbean. I like the Caribbean too though.
I prefer more sea days then port days on any cruise. I enjoy the ports but it is the ship that is my main choice for the most part.

From what I gather January - June is a good time to take a Mexican Riviera Cruise ... right or wrong?
Note: We are asking because we would like to do this the next time we happen to be on the West coast. Think, it could be a good opportunity to stay over for a cruise!
