I have been all down the west coast of Mexico, but I have never cruised to any part of Mexico..so I am not an expert. What I do remember about visiting the west coast of Mexico was that the water wasn't very "friendly". I didn't get that feeling like I wanted to jump in at any point. There were lots of grey choppy waters with plenty of sharp rocks and bad currents and riptides to think about. I am sure it's not like that everywhere on the west coast...there are probably some decent swimming areas...but I am pretty sure it's not going to be anything like the Caribbean turquoise crystal clear snorkeling paradise you get on the other side of Mexico.
But that might not matter to some people. In fact, if somebody wanted to just go on a cruise to enjoy the ship more than the water, and also enjoy some genuine Mexican lifestyle, food, people, and shopping...without it being quite so gringo touristy as the other side...then this might be a perfect cruise for them. I am just guessing, but I would bet the Mexican Riviera cruise is less of a party boat atmosphere than almost any cruise going to Cancun...and to me that would be a big plus!
