    Hi Roberto,

Do you know anyone we can get in touch with in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa to help us put together some fun at Los Gatos Beach? A bunch of us want to do pretty much the same things: snorkel, jet ski, eat/drink/make merry, have massages.....do you know of anyone we can contact to help us put something together?

    Thanks,
    Peggy

    Hi Peggy,

Unortunately no, I haven't been to Zihua in ages. Although it's fairly simple to get to Las Gatas, you just buy a water taxi ticket at the office located in front of the harbor master (right on the pier where the shp wiill tender) at the beach you will find many restaurants, a dive shop and plenty of people offering their services.

I can give you the email of a tour operator that may possibly arrange a day, but, since they work for the cruise line, I'm not sure if they will agree to do so.

    mterritt@aviomar.com.mx

Michael Territ, he works for Aviomar the comany that caters to many cruise ships in Zihua. Feel free to email him and just mention I said "where are my damn cookies" he'll know it's me.

    Hi Roberto,

I was wondering how a ship decides to pull up to the port dock ??? Do you tell the ship, or does the ship decide whether to pull in forward our pull in backward ??? I'm trying to figure out which side of the ship will be on the port side. Is there anyway to know ???

    Thanks!

When either the Norwegian Star or Carnival Spirit is alone at berth in Acapulco, the Captain of the ship prefers to have the ship port side alongside. No particular reason, probably cause it's easier for the port pilot to head out to sea since the bow points to the entrance of the bay.

The ship arrives to Acapulco with the pier on her star board side, they do a 180° spin (in the turning bassin) and berth the ship port side alongside. IMO it's much easier to do the spin with day light, at night there are many small fishing boats and the spin manuever can be dangerous for them.

If there is a lot of swell, the pilot and captain usually agree to berth the ship at berth 2 starboard alongside (berth 1 is has a lot of swell always and the risk increases for hull damage, broken lines, etc. in rough swell conditions).
