Ixtapa
You really tender into Zihuatanejo. Right at the tender pier there are lots of small shops -- t-shirts, jewelry, etc. Also along the water's edge are lots of vendors -- rows upon rows of them, and a couple of restaurants.
To get to Ixtapa, you need to take either a ship's tour and a taxi -- there were not a lot of them there all of the times we have been there. A ship's tour doesn't let you really go to a beach.
Ixtapa -- we traveled past the Playa de Palmar beach - beautiful, passed a let of high end hotels and high rises -- very expensive here. We also got to stop at one lof the smaller shopping malls -- very expensive pottery, jewelry, shoes, etc. One picture stop showed us what we thought was a light house but was really a restaurant. Also passed lots of gold courses and very fancy restaurants.
Another great beach is on Isla Ixtapa - also great for snorkling. But the few times we have been there, our ship always left at 2 PM. To get to the this island you take a special launch early in the morning -- but it doesn't return until 4 in the afternoon. We have heard so many good reports about this place and hope to get there some day.
