    MERCURY..Buffet is not a buffet?

Just had some friends who sailed on the Mercury last week tell me that when they went to the breakfast buffet that they were "served" their bacon, eggs, etc. ??
Is that they way Celebrity does their buffet? I found it rather strange.
They said the fruits and pastries were buffet style, but not anything else.
And they were disappointed with the portions. If you wanted more you had to go stand in the line again.

If they went to the fresh egg station and had their eggs cooked to order, then they would be served their eggs and they also have the breakfast meats there so you don't have to go stand in another line for that.

The buffet line has always had the servers to plate whatever you pick out. If they wanted a bigger serving then they should have asked.

Now, it they were seated and being served in the buffet---that's a new one I never heard of!

I understand the egg station, but bacon, potatoes, sausage?
Having only sailed on RC, those items are a serve yourself situation.

On Celebrity they have the regular buffet line, but there are servers standing behind the food to serve your plates. It's always been that way as long as we have been sailing Celebrity. I have never had a problem with quantity--just tell the server more---or less of whatever they are serving and they will oblige.

I know that if ships on other cruise lines are having a noro problem they will go to that method of serving so folks won't be touching the serving utensils themselves and contaminating the food.

Char, from personal experience, they do not understand the concept "just a little bit"!

    Good point Neal.

I've never had a problem with having as much as I wanted when going through the buffet. I really like the fact that passenger handling of the food is reduced somewhat. It really torques my jaw to see someone pick a food item up with their bare hands and then return it to the display. I'm glad I have long arms and can choose from items out of the reach of many.

Sometimes they do--but you are right..most of the time they want to satisfy your hunger the first time around. I was surprised that those folks thought the servings were small.

What was amazing to me is that the gal complained. She is about 115lbs soaking wet and hardly eats anything. But I guess a cruise is different, eh?
I guess it wasn't too bad though, she gained 2-1/2 lbs in the week.
