    Discounts

I love discounts and coupons! I found an Alaska tour book that offers a lot of 2 for 1 deals and other discounts on private tours. Alaska vacation Toursaver ~ Alaskan coupons and discounts on travel :: Home
It costs $100 ($99.95), which it looks like I'll make up by buying one tour through them.

Plus it's fine to page through and dream!

    Zipline!

Woohoo! Vicki and I just booked the Zipline tour through the ship in Juneau. David, you up for this?

    Alpine Zipline & Rainforest Eco-Tour – ship, 12:30pm
Fly through the trees of a scenic alpine rainforest. Your experienced guides will leave you from tree to tree with snowcapped mountains surrounding you. On one platform, you will be greeted with spruce tea and a local snack. Along your journey, you will traverse an aerial suspension bridge above headwaters of a salmon spawning stream. On the final zip, you will land in a uniquely designed tree house. All of your senses will be stimulated on this one of a kind tour. On the walk back to the lodge, your guides will point out some interesting sights in the rainforest. The ski lodge runs on hydro-electric power, harnessed from the streams below the ziplines. Here you will be able to reflect on your experience as you watch a video presentation of your tour.

ISP does seem to have the fastest zipline, but we liked this one because you get to see more of the wilderness.

We're looking at a whale watching trip in Sitka through an independent tour operator.
www.puffinsandwhales.com They take six people at a time. I think it would be fun for some of our group to go together on it. The pirates will take to the sea!

    It's more than only whales. . .

    From the website:
Sitka Sound, on the edge of the wild Tongass National Forest, is an amazing place, absolutely teeming with life. Whales -- humpback, gray, minke and orca, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, sea otters and jumping salmon, as well as puffins, murres, auklets, eagles and many other wild animals are abundant residents. Enthusiastic visitors, natural historians and photographers alike will marvel at this spectacular wild paradise!!!
Two, three and four hour tours as well as fully customized options are available. While most trips tend to focus on whale watching, extended tours include exciting destinations more distant from town.

    • Two hours gives a general overview closer to town.
    • Three hour tours can include Saint Lazaria Island National Wildlife Refuge (incredible congregation of puffins, murres, cormorants, and other seabirds and birds of prey in the setting of a dramatic volcanic island)
    • Four hours journeys can add a trip to one or more remote sea lion islands, otter colonies and seal haul-outs. Some tours can even include bear searches.

    Sounds like fun

I'll get serious about this cruise as soon as all the holiday mayhem is past......and while I'm on the subject.....
