If you plan to snorkel at Molokini, try to make it a morning trip. The swell can get quite high in the afternoon, and make it very uncomfortable in the area.

That's right Joe. Did you know that Ma‘alaea, the harbor that most tours leave from, means big wind in Hawaiian?
Just showed hubby Brooke's photo of Molikini. Our excursion is supposed to leave at 8:30am. A six hour excursion. Hopefully the snorkeling equipment comes with the price.
Hubby's question is how warm/cold will be the water? We'll be there the last week of December. Was trying to find out from weather.com but that info is more on land info unless I was looking in the wrong place.

Unless you go during summer the water temp will be somewhere around 80 or a bit lower. It is not like some of the Caribbean water temps but it is still not too bad.

I did not Bill, but now I can say I learned something new today. Always a good thing.:headbang2Originally Posted by SnorkelBill
Our trip to Molokini was memorable, not for the snorkelling, but for the wind and swell. It was so big it was uncomfortable to be in the water, and difficult to get back on the boat because it was rising and falling so much. We left early to go to Turtle Town, and the engine stalled and we had to anchor and wait for another boat to come get us. We did get some good whale sightings though while we were sitting there bobbing around.
