    Post Boston: Come Ashore!

Boston, Massachusetts is a New England city that is chock full of history. It seems that at almost every turn there is another important building, train, memorial, etc. that commemorates the birth of our country. It’s a great city to spend some time exploring either pre or post cruise.

Anyone departing on a cruise from Boston will leave from the Black Falcon Cruise ship terminal. Most out of town visitors will arrive into Boston’s Logan International Airport. A short taxi ride (approximately 10 minutes) at a cost of about $18 (costs are high due to airport fees and toll fees for the Ted Williams Bridge) will get you from the airport to the pier.

For those wanting to explore a little of this great town, here are a few points of interest.

Freedom Trail – a 2 ½ mile trail through the heart of Downtown Boston that commerates some of the greatest moments in our country’s history. Start off at Boston Commons where there is an information book where you can pick up a brochure and a walking map for the trail

Quincy Market – located on the Freedom trail and adjacent to Fanueil Hall, Quincy Market is a mixture of an indoor and outdoor pedestrian market and shopping and dining area. It’s a great place to come for an afternoon stroll, pick up some great food, and do some people watching. Its certainly a place not to be missed on any trip to Boston.

Harvard University – as the oldest institution of higher learning in the country, make a trip out to Cambridge and visit Harvard University. There is such an aura about the school and a history there that visitors should take some time to take a quick walking tour of the campus. The same goes for MIT not too far away from Harvard

Fenway Park – as one of the most recognizable baseball stadiums in the United States, it’s a sports fans dream to take a tour of the park and the see the Green Monster, or if you have a free night and its baseball season and the Red Sox are in town, check out a baseball game.

    Faneuil Hall
In the heart of Boston, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is adjacent to historic Faneuil Hall and is bordered by the financial district, the waterfront, the North End, Government Center and Haymarket. It is a well-traveled part of Boston's "Freedom Trail." The Marketplace is a five-minute walk to the New England Aquarium, The Children's Museum, The Old State House, and Paul Revere's House. Other attractions that are between 7-15 minutes away include The New State House, The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Public Garden, Old North Church, The USS Constitution, and Fenway Park.

    Always Enjoyed Boston!

We always enjoy Boston when coming into the harbor on the QM2 for the July 4th holiday.

We enter the harbor during the Harborfest, we in NYC like to call it Operation Sail.

We enjoy walking the streets of Boston around the parks, visit many of the restaurants, and window shopping on
Newberry Street (like their Madison Ave).

Faneuil Hall Marketplace is also very interesting with many
    food courts to dine at.

Quincy Market - open air Market Place.

Even a visit to the Bull & Finch - "Cheers"

I agree! Boston is a wonderful city to visit. If you've never been there before and don't know where to go or what to do, the tourist maps they provide for free are great and make it easy to navigate around the city. If you to try and see it all, there are several trolley services; Old Town Trolley, City View Trolley, and Beantown Trolley are three that come to mind. These are great because you can get on and off at any of the many stops around the city with an all-day pass. So, you get to see it all, visit it all, and not worry about taxis or walking long distances. Plus, the drivers are very good at providing historical narration and answering questions giving you lots of information about the sites.

    Question

Do any ships start their cruises in Boston or is it always just a port of call?

There are alot of ships that begin from Boston; they do Canada/New England, Bermuda, Caribbean, and even some repositioning cruises and transatlantic cruises. Depends on what cruise line and where you want to go.

Awesome, Pete! I want to go back to Boston someday and do not want to return to NYC for more than one day. It would be a Canada/New England cruise if I do it.
