    Majesty Dry Dock

The Majesty of the Seas, which sails 3 and 4 night itineraries, out of Miami, is being "revitalized."

It's a 28 day, 35 million dollar project, scheduled for completion in early February.

She'll probably get a lot of the same refrubishments that her sister ship, the Sovereign of the Seas, underwent a while back.

One brand new feature, however, will be the Compass Deli.

We went on the Majesty in October and had some of the best times I have had with RCL, although noticed the ship could use a little update. It was spotless, and the food and staff were great. I did miss the extra dining venues one finds on the newest ships, but still it was terrific. We had a JS on deck 10, and they had already upgraded the bedding. I am booking a mini-back to back on the Sovereign and Mariner this next fall, I hope that we enjoy the Sovereign with the upgrades as much as we did the Majesty!!

How neat - which one is first - the Sovereign or the Mariner?
SUCH a difference between those two ships!

The Majesty was getting a little worn, so this is good news.

I o intend to sail the Majesty some day. But it's not real high on my list, as it means a drive to Miami, and her sister is SO convenient.

There's a big difference between the Sovereign and the Mariner Of The Seas.
Sovereign went in service in mid january, 1988, and is a big ship, 2,852 passengers.
Mariner is even bigger and newer, a Voyager Class vessel, in service since November, 2003, and has capacity for 3,114 passengers.

I was in Miami yesterday evening and saw Mariners sisters Voyager and Navigator depart. Those are huge ships just out done by Freedom.

I've been on both the sovereign and athe Mariner. The Mariner is big (no- huge) and beautiful. The Sovereign is a comfortable and easy ship to sail.

We did a modified back to back on the Majesty and the Freedom. Talk about differences!!!

I have cruised on the Voyager class before, they are huge, but the Freedom is really huge. It is goregeous, but soooo big. I felt though, that the Freedom was much more crowded than the Mariner which we have cruised twice. Of course, it could be that it was a holiday in NJ, so many kids aboard. I don't remember waiting in the type of lines on other ships that we had on the Freedom.

Also, at least on the dates we cruised, there was not much enforcement of a dress code for dinner. Maybe because there were so many families aboard, but folks came in to the dining room very casual...saw men in denim shorts, women in shorts and tanks, etc. Our little area did have most of the folks dress, and we enjoyed it, but the family at the table next to us, heard lots of complaints from thier kids who were "forced" to dress up, when other "cool" kids didn't.

I loved the contrast between the ships. I hope I will enjoy the Sovereign as much. I also much prefer sailing out of Port Canaveral to Miami. In fact Rocky says if I book out of Miami again, he won't go. (I planned a week for us there this time, and he didn't enjoy it...just not a city guy I guess.)

Oh, I have heard mentions made in reviews of the Sovereign about a "smell". What is that about??

Yes - I smelled it once - a number of sailings ago.
I forget which one... we've done the Sov over a dozen times.
It wasn't constant, and not everywhere. Seems like we were on one of the lower decks that time...
I'm pretty sure this was before the refurb, so maybe the problem was solved then.
