Wouldn't it be great if people intentionally choose to sail out of New Orleans to help the economy? But I am not sure where you can sail to from there. I am guessing the Carribbean and Yucatan...anything else?
New Orleans is my favorite port to cruise from. Even though Galveston is closer, I'm still disappointed that they moved our Oct 2006 cruise. I contribute to the economy several times a year to Nola.
A friend from there posted some pics taken this past weekend and it looks so sad without all the people. Working on plans now to visit there in Nov after my cruise.
I think it's a superb idea to sail out of NOLA to help the economy. We usually book on board to get the savings, so next week I might look at booking a cruise out of NOLA for this time next year. They certainly should be back up and running by then.

My husband and I sailed on the Conquest a year ago out of New Orleans, departed on Halloween. We went to Montego Bay, Grand Caymen and Cozumel. We had a great time!
I-cruise (an on-line cruise booking site which has an easy search-by-port featuer) lists the following cruises as being slated to leave from New Orleans:
Golden Princes - Dec 16, 2006 - 7 day Western Caribbean (three sailings, then a 16 day repo to Rio)
Grandeur of the Seas - Dec 2, 2006 - 7 day Western Caribbean (continuing weekly through Apr 21, 2007)
Norweigian Sun - April 23, 2006 - 17 day Panama Canal (to San Francisco)
Carnival Sensation - July 15, 2006 - 5 day Western Caribbean.
This one looks odd. Just two a month are listed as sailing from New Orleans through Apr 21, 2007. The others during that time frame are listed as leaving from the port of Galveston... elsewhere, I've seen that thhe Sensation will be doing some time home porting at Port Canaveral.
JBM - They stated last week that they are expecting the Conquest to move back to NO in the Spring.
Moving the Conquest back to Nola would be fine with me. Makes it kinda hard for all of us that make hotel reservations at 330 days though. Carnival has already promised us an additional $100 per cabin credit because of relocation to Texas if first deposit was paid by end of Sept.
We'll gladly take more credit for switching us back to where we really want to sail from.

Just finalized plans with local friends tonight. I'll be celebrating Mardi Gras with them in Houma & New Orleans. Husband & wife are both members of local Mardi Gras krewes so it should be a blast.
