Yikes Hi Stephen, sorry it is almost over but glad to hear you enjoyed her

My Signature Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Past Cruises Most people walk into and out of your life . . . but FRIENDS leave footprints in your heart

It's a good job she is made of strong stuff, the Captain said, he thought any other ship would have had a lot more damange.

I was on deck 13 Stairway A, waiting for a lift.

There had been an anouncement early along the lines of "all hands to emergancy mooring stations". Then a couple of minutes later, came the bump.

The main gangway was about 40 foot long. It was still attached to the side of the ship but hanging down into the water. The Captain later told us it was touching the bottom of the dock. They made the ship list to port, which raised the gangway off the bottom of the dock and enabled them to lift it back into place.

The hole incident lasted no more than a few minutes, but it broke at last 5 mooring lines. I have read elsewhere the gust was up to force 10, but I don't know if that is true. It must have been very strong to brake so many ropes.

They have painted over the damaged paintwork, but I think the dent will stay as a reminder of the event.

Must have been some bump then!

Must have had a lot of fun getting the gangway back into place, because it sure sounds like it!

What an experiance for your first cruise on her! Hopefully next time is much safer and less eventful!

Stephen,

Sorry if this sounds a little funny, but I wanted to check. When you were on the bridge which port were you sailing from? What was the view like too?

No problem Harry, it was Rotterdam and we were on the starboard bridge wing. The Captain was on the port wing. We were looked after by the Captain's Secretary and the 3rd officer who was watching out for ships in the river.

The view was very good and I looked down through the glass floor I could see the full length of the ship and being so far out I could see a lot more than from the observation deck just below. It was a wonderful experience and it's all thanks to you.
