Thumbs down Barcelona here we come!

We sailing on Liberty of the Seas out of Miami, April 2, 2011. Does anyone know about transfers to hotels once we dock in Barcelona? We're looking at spending the night before heading on to Ibiza and want to stay near the airport for an early flight the next day. Any guidance woukd be appreciated.

There are many hotels around EL Prat.
I have never stayed at a hotel near the airport because the city is only a 20 minute taxi drive away.
However, the hotels closest to the aiport are:

    Hotel Air Rooms:

The Air Rooms form part of a business centre with Barcelona Airport’s Terminal 1. They offer an opportunity for rest and work in between flights.

All of the rooms have large windows with plenty of natural light. They have a plasma-screen satellite TV, internet access and air conditioning. There is a free minibar and coffee machine.

The rooms are next to a series of office spaces and meeting rooms. There is also a fitness centre with modern cardiovascular equipment.

The Air Rooms can be found within Barcelona Airport, giving very easy access to flights. The centre of Barcelona can be reached in less than 30 minutes by train, bus or taxi.

    Hotel Tryp Barcelona Aeropuerto:

This business hotel is the closest to Barcelona El Prat Airport's new T1 Terminal, and is linked to the terminal by a free shuttle bus, operating 24 hours a day.

The contemporary-styled Tryp Barcelona Aeropuerto has spacious, air-conditioned rooms, and is located beside the entrance to the airport in the area of Prat de Llobregat.

    Hotel Renaissance Barcelona:

This modern hotel is located close to Barcelona El Prat Airport. It offers a free airport shuttle, free shuttle to the city centre and a swimming pool.

All of the rooms in the Renaissance Barcelona Airport are air-conditioned and soundproofed. They all have flat-screen TVs and marble bathrooms.

Renaissance Barcelona Airport has a large outdoor swimming pool, a terrace and garden. There is also a fitness centre and paddle courts. The business centre offers free internet access.

The Renaissance Barcelona Airport has 2 restaurants. The Alabastro Bar offers cocktails and tapas, and the Sal Marina offers Mediterranean cuisine including fresh seafood.

The hotel is close to the Barcelona trade fair site on Gran Via. The free shuttle to the city stops at Plaça Espanya, ideal for the other trade fair site.

Thanks, Lars. One of those is the hotel we're considering. But, how do we get from the port to the hotel? Is a taxi our only option?

    Taxi is the easiest option.
There might be a shuttle to town provided by the cruise line - from town you have to take the bus to the airport.
The Cruise line will probably have a city tour with airport drop off but that tends to work out as the most expensive option.

A taxi is only around Euros 30.

The taxi is about 30 Euro.
The best way to find a good hotel is to use Google Earth, check the area where you like to stay and zoom in, you will see hotels (red beds) click on it and you will see the rates and pictures. Then look for reviews of the hotel and the use Google street view to make a vitual walk and see the area of the hotel.

If the ship goes where you want to go when you want to go, then go.

I agree taxis are your best way.. and they are all lined up out side waiting for yo at the pier..as a suggestion .. unless you are fluent in Spanish .. i found that if I have my destination written out on paper it is a breeze..when we sailed from Barcelona we got in the cab and I just handed the driver the paper and he took off.. it's not me so much worried about me understanding his English (which was excellent) but more of me not wanting to embarrass myself by trying to communicate with my poor attempt at Spanish 101
