Please remember I have never been to a private resort (unless you count Disney) or any type of private island so my vote is going from just this one particular place.
Anyway - my girlfriend and I loved it... Nothing like we expected. Sand was amazing, view from Balcony was amazing, water felt so nice and warm, neat little walking trails, lots of beach activities to do, you do not even realize you are in one of the most dangerous and poorest places in the Caribbean... Actually one of the most dangerous places anywhere...
Only thing we hated was the shopping, but it is stuffed in such a corner that it would not stop us from going back, we would just most likely skip that...
Next Cruise January 16th, 2010 - Oasis of the Seas!
Labadee is okay, but I much prefer Coco Cay instead if you want to compare RCCL's two private islands.
Compared to other cruise line's private islands, there are a couple that are better than Labadee.

Had to vote "Really Liked It" because my daughter & family were there on a 9 Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise this past spring ... and it was their FAVORITE port stop!
DH & I enjoyed Labadee ... but we liked CoCoCay much better!

We really loved Labadee when we were there on one of the RCCL ships. We chose one of the two Solstice itineraries for March because we like this island that much. I have heard they are making some changes and I will report back if I like it even more this time around
I like Labadee & I like CocoCay. Both for different reasons. Labadee feels like you are really on an island. Lots of different areas, calm waters or rougher waters for those who want that & jungly looking. (Hmmm is jungly a word. LOL) Or you can go to Columbus beach & be in the middle of all the action. CocoCay, flat, easier walking & nice & open. Pretty. DH Likes Labadee better.

Oasis Of The Seas Inaugural B2B - 12/1/'09 - 12/12/'09
Only been there once and that was in 2000. The weather was perfect although it was quite warm. It's the Caribbean and I expected that. The water was clear blue and rather calm where I was, to the right from the tendering area. The food was good as were the drinks. I would definitely go back.
We were there in November---got a couple of loungers on the beach and watched the folks coming down on the zip line! They sure looked and sounded like they were having fun!
It's a very nice private island and I would look forward to going back---especially since they are making some big improvements.
