Jewel of the Seas transatlantic - Sept. 4-18, 2010

We just booked this cruise. It has a great itinerary! We have sailed on the Jewel before and think she's the prettiest ship afloat!

    Who's going with us?

The Jewel is my favorite ship. We spent a total of 3 weeks onboard her in 2007, transatlantic in April and Caribbean in November. Wish we could join you on this cruise.

The best excursion I ever took was in Le Harve. If you haven't already been I can recommend the Beaches of Normandy excursion. It includes Omaha Beach and the American Cemetary. I can't imagine anyone not being moved at either of these locations. The American Cemetary brought tears to my eyes and many others, including my "tough guy" husband. The sight of the row upon row of crosses and star of David really brings home the sacrifices made by others for to ensure our freedom.

Barb, we have been on that excursion too and it's very moving. Have you ever been to Cherbourg? We haven't been to that port so will have to do some research on that one.

I agree. I think it should be mandatory for all Americans. Even those who don't want to go can't helped but be moved. I've been twice. Once on a ship's excursion and once on a private tour.

The first time my wife didn't go with me. We had flown into London the day before the cruise and she was afraid she would be too tired for a couple of days. The next trip I didn't give her the option (and I was glad for an excuse to go again).

    Garry,

The only other port on your itinerary I've been to was Cork (Cobh). We went to Blarney Castle and then stopped in a local pub for a bit. You can take a ship's shuttle into the city of Cork and there is a Titanic museam right at the pier. We left Fort Lauderdale on April 15 which was the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and our first port was Cobh which had been the last port for the Titanic.

Hi Patti. This is a bit quieter here, but we can discuss things without so much scrolling. Welcome aboard.

Have you sailed this itinerary before? I'm looking forward to Iceland. It's a first for me.

No we have not. We did the Baltics several years back and that was our first time on Jewel. It is a beautiful ship.

We are looking forward to this one because it has a much better itinerary than this year's TA, plus it's 14 days instead of 12.

We are hoping that they offer the City Inn Westminster as they did this year. Friends of ours who did the TA last year stayed there and they said it was very nice and close to a lot of places.

Now, if we could just find some good airfare......but will have to wait until October.

Yep, this is a much quieter site..............but at least you don't have to watch your p's and q's and cross your t's all the time!
