1st Med cruise coming up !

Ok all you knowledgable people - I could do with some advice please.....

Our 1st Med cruise is coming up in 8 weeks time. Adventure of the Seas with 3 ports of call, Sardinia, Rome & Corsica.....

My question is in Rome we would like to catch the train from Civitevechia Port and see Colleseum, Trevi Fountain & St Peter's in the Vatican...... Is this all do-able ok? And if yes, then which way round should we do these sights ?

Have no idea what to do in the other 2 ports, so has anyone got any ideas ???

We dont really like doing "excursions" as we like to do our own thing......

Any Help or advice would be very much appreciated as this will only be our 3rd cruise (we will be celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and our DS's 14th Birthday!) having done 1 x Eastern Caribbean on Freedom of the Seas and 1 x Western Caribbean on Oasis of the Seas...

    Thank you All !!!

I visited all of these places but on an organised trip from the ship. I think you can get the train to Rome from Civievechia ok, but once in Rome things are quite spread out so you would need a taxi or some form of public transport to get to all of the places you want to see. I would add the Panthion to the list it is just out of this world.

The trip I did took us to St Peters first, then the colleseum and dropped us in People's square when we were give time to explore. We managed to see the Trevi Fountain, spanish steps, Panthion and get a very nice ice cream

One thing to think about it that it is a long way from the port to the city so if you do your own thing be sure to leave yourself plent of time to get back to the ship.

Cruises booked: Queen Victoria August 2012 and Queen Elizabeth December 2012.

You should jump on one of those hop on hop off buses - very convinient for sightseeing in Rome.
You can easily take the train from Civitavecchia to Rome but I would check how may ships are in port that day.
If there are more then 4 it will be mayhem at the train station so you might concider the expensive "Rome on your own" tour/transfer which the ship is offering.

here you can check which ships are in port that day:

If you decide to do Rome on your own from the port, then click here:

Otherwise, if you are looking for a private tour, then click here:

Have fun, Rome is a great city
