The Vatican Museum & Sistene Chapel are open for free the last Sunday of the month, but closed all the other Sundays. It's closed because of church services for the parish members. I guess the Romans want to actually use St. Peter's for the purpose it was built? the nerve!![]()

I never understood thatI thought they built it for our use
Anyway, if you only have 6 hours in Rome I would either concentrate on The St. Peters Basilica and the Vatican Museum with the Sistine Chapel OR do a tour of the main sites (Coloseum, Trevi, Pantheon, Spanish Steps.....................)
If we are lucky we will be in Rome for the "Settimana della cultura" when all state-run sights (national museums, galleries, monuments, and archaeological sites) throughout Italy are admission-free. It is held near the end of April and April 19th has fallen within the festival week for the last 2 years. The 19th is when we will be in port. I am thinking we will save the Basilica, Vatican and Sistine for next time. Thanks for the reply. Lee![]()
