Can you take a cab from Rome to Civitevechhia?

OK, I have a question. I know Civitevecchia is quite a way from down town Rome. Most of the private shuttle services charge 110 Euros to 200 euros for 2-4 people coming from the City Center of Rome to the cruise port.

According to the World Taxi Meter web site which just calculate fares based on time and distance, the fare would be about 70 euros, plus 1.04 euros per luggage.

So as a family of 4, that sounds like it would be a much easier way to go as long as we can get a mini-van taxi either by hailing one or calling for one.

So that is my questions, will a Taxi Cab take you to the cruise port, or will they not want to travel so far.

In Barcelona, the distance from the airport to the city center, and from the city center to the port is very short, but in both cases it was very easy as we just got a mini van taxi at the airport and phoned for one to pick us up at our rental apartment.

I would not trust the World taxi meter website, the fare you are most likely to pay is the one you mentioned yourself. Between Euros 135-200.

Your best bet is to order a taxi van instead of hailing one.
I have never heard of any taxis not wanting to go to the port of Rome.
PS! Most taxis will take you to the entrance to the port, only a few are authorized to acually take you to the ships, from the entrance to the port there will be a free shuttle bus taking you to the ship.

Suzanne, if you'll click on the Equinox TA link in my signature and then click on Rome on the map, it'll take you to a page where Bob has loaded a lot of transportation options and Rome information. Maybe you'll see something that'll help.

When we were in Italy last fall I did not have any pre-planned transportation. So many people online were swearing that you needed to be proactive and book a driver ahead of time...but then a few people said taxis were easy to find and everything could be spontaneous.

We couldn't book a driver ahead of time, since our plans were likely to change at the last minute because of group logistics. So I went with my fingers crossed and decided to be spontaneous.
Like you, I was not sure about where the taxis would take me, and even if they'd be available. I learned that they are wonderfully accomodating - they are all over the place, easy to find, and they were happy to take us anywhere we wanted to go.

I think you'll be fine. You might need to take that short shuttle along the dock area to the ship, but that is also easy.

Have fun!

PS - everywhere we went we took taxis, in Rome and in some very small towns. We never felt as if we were charged unfairly by any driver.

Did they just charge you the fare on the Meter, or did they charge you a pre-set price.
