Help for the right tour in Florence and Rome

I am working in Italy and the moment and my family will join me from England for a short holiday cruising the Med. I want to make this trip special and was looking for a private company that would be able to accomodate our need for tours in Rome and Florence. I found Miles&Miles private tours on Tripadvisor and they had a great article on

Touring Rome in Style

they seem very professional. I have two kids 6 and 8 yrs old, as anybody toured with them as a family? Any suggestions also for Nice and Marseille? Any help will appreciated.

Noticed this was your first post. Welcome to CLF!

Lots of our members do Med cruises frequently so hopefully they'll be able to answer your question.

Hi Markgan - Welcome to CLF You might want to stop by the Introduce yourself section to meet the others. We have a great group of memeber here

Which ship are you sailing on and when????

I have never used Miles&Miles. I have however used Rome in Limo. They are very professional too. They are multilingual and very knowledgable. They can do tours for you both in Rome and Florence. Their prices area little bit more expensive then other companies but you should be able to get a discount if you book both cities with them.
Rome in Limo Company

A company we are going to use for our Livorno (Florence) tour in November is Tuscany by taxi.
They have really good recommandations and their prices are reasonable.

In Nice I like to walk around the oldtown, the promenade des angles or visit the Chagall museum. (might nor be too fun for the kids)
Your ship might be anchored off in Villefranche sur mer??? Makes sure you take time to stroll around this lovely riviera town. You can also reach Monte Carlo easily from Nice or Villefranche, so is Cannes.
Eze is a lovely medieval village built on a narrow rocky peak overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Grasse with its perfumeries are an interesting town too. The touristy St. Paul de Vence is a very quaint artist town which you might like too.

Marseiile - Nothing much in the city itself. You could try the original Boullabaise at one of the seafron restaurants which the city is known for.
I would suggest you head into Provance and the towns of Cassis, Arles, Aux en Provance, Le Baux de Provance.

You could check out this site, its very good for information and booking:

Markgan;

We cruised the Med last October/November with Royal Caribbean and used Tuscany by taxi in Florence/Pisa and Driver in Rome for the Rome tour. They were both good with Driver in Rome being excellent. They picked us up at the port (Civitecchia) right on time and they made all the arrangements for the Vatican museum (special line, no waiting) with an exceptional guide.

They use smaller minvans so can navigate the narrow streets much better than the large buses and they got us to all the major sites with ease and then back to the ship with no problems at all.

Exclamation Spam alert

Oooohhhh...
It's deja vu time...
"Markgan" is a FRAUD.

DO NOT USE "Miles and Miles"...
A few weeks back , on trip advisor, some poster registered and then posted...about 100 times , in answer to anything that remotely mentioned tour guides in Italy, SPAM for this "Miiles and Miles" outfit...All of them CLAIMING to be personal recommendations or recommendations from friends...

All were clearly the work of the operator himself...

From the port of Livorno

Livorno - Florence
Best choice is Florence
it’s a beautiful city with many old buildings and artwork.

Take a taxi from the port to the train station Livorno Centrale, cost about € 20.
Or
Take the shuttle bus offered by NCL for €1 round trip ticket. It will leave you at the center of Livorno ( close to Trainstation ), exit the bus cross the street to the cigarette shop purchase a train round trip ticket from Livorno to Florence.
The train from Livorno to Florence
is very easy and on time. Cost about € 17 p.p. round trip.

Train from Livorno to Florence

Departure station Arrival station Date Train no.
Livorno Centrale 09:11 h Firenze S. M. Novella 10:33 h 1/8/2008 3108
Livorno Centrale 10:11 h Firenze S. M. Novella 11:33 h 1/8/2008
3114
Livorno Centrale 11:11 h Firenze S. M. Novella 12:33 h 1/8/2008
3110

Train from Florence to Livorno

Departure station Arrival station Date Train no.
Firenze S. M. Novella 16:27 h Livorno Centrale 17:49 h 1/8/2008 3141
Firenze S. M. Novella
17:27 h Livorno Centrale 18:50 h 1/8/2008 11727

Don’t forget to validate the ticket by inserting it into the little yellow validation box located on the track that the train leaves from. You must also validate it on the return trip from Florence
.
NOTE: If you are caught with an unvalidated ticket, the fine is 40 euro on-the-spot!

Since the train originates in Livorno and terminates in Florence simply stay on the train until it stops in both directions. Be aware that the train does make intermediate stops. However, once you arrive in Florence, the train station is only a few blocks from the epicenter of Florence tourism. When you leave the front exit of the train station look for the cathedral spire across the square. The road that will lead you to the Duomo is right on its left. You can't miss it. Be sure to get back on time to Livorno and get on the ship. There will be taxis waiting at the train station in Livorno
.

Tip: take in the citties “Open Bus Tours” you can see everything and is cheaper then a taxi.

Don’t forget ID card or passport !!!
