I am new here and thought I would add my 2 cents worth. I realize everyone wishes to save some money and at the same time get the best possible tour. Having done business in Italy for a few years, I would suggest that if you wanted to tour Amalfi, Sorrento and perhaps Pompeii from Naples, you may wish to consider the day you will be in port.
I recommend that if it is in the high season ( May to early October) and on a weekend, you may wish to do the ship offered tour. The traffic on Saturdays and Sundays is horrendous (Naples is bad no matter the day. The worst traffic and drivers in Europe IMHO) and the tour buses seem to get priority. A car may just get hung up in the traffic.
