I just looooved the Med...I didn't want to leave! Italy was wonderful, and Greece and Turkey were just amazing. I want to go back...soon...

[quote=FlRic]TexasHorseLady: The ruins at Ephesus are absolutely spectacular, much, much better than those in Greece! I would still recommend the Acropolis/Plaka combo in Athens and save your ruin site-seeing for Ephesus. We have spent a total of 30 days travelling all over Turkey. Most of the ruin sites are impressive but none come close to the city of Ephesus.
Hey, it's been a while since you wrote that suggestion and since I went to the Med and saw Ephesus for myself. I have to admit...you were right. I loved the Acropolis and Ephesus the best.
Here's a photo I took of the Library of Celcius at Ephesus. We were lucky and had perfect weather...bright blue mediterranean skies every day.

I didn't cruise around Italy but I did take a 10 day land vacation there. I was on a Trafalgar tour and absolutely loved it. Pompei was my favorite place. My next favorite was Rome. I think cruising Italy would be absolutely the perfect cruise!!!
Cruising is life at it's best!
The Med contains many cultures and lots and lots of history. Cruising is probably the best way to experience this fact but don't expect to absorb it all in one cruise!![]()
27 cruises and countin'!
Next cruise, July 12-26, 2008. NCL Jade 13 night cruise around the British Isles, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris.
It's sort of like cruising anywhere...it's a great sampler platter to see what the place offers. I think of cruising anyplace this complex and full of history as a good way to see where I want to return on a more in-depth land vacation some day.

I want to take a cruise from Venice to Dubrovnik to the Greek Islands next time. I think all those places are ports you can visit in a day or two and get a lot out of them.
I want to go back to Italy...but next time I want to spend about a month just driving around and really soaking it up. My favorite parts of Italy were Tuscany and Sicily. I loved the ruins of ancient Rome, and Pompeii was fascinating but I think it's something you can see once...the same goes for the Amalfi region. But Tucscany and Sicily were just magical...I could happily spend a lot of time at each.
