Where I live, English is about the fourth language spoken. Valspeak is the first, fer shur, in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.

Valspeak is not a language. A language is a method for exchanging information verbally. I doubt that any real information is exchanged......

Just addressing the most common criticisms of Costa. Some people are apparently mortally offended by others cutting in line at the buffet. Which is weird because the general consensus is that the buffet is pretty bad. I'd rather eat in the dining room anyway.

You are right, though, Texans do speak a strange dialect I like to call "Texasese"
I grew up in Chicago and then spent 22 years in Northern California. In CA everyone is very careful to pronounce Spanish names properly. In Texas they just don't care. So Guadalupe is Guadaloop, Manor is Maaner, Blanco is Blaanco, Manachaca is Manchak.

Still, after making fun of the expression all my life, it took like 10 minutes for me to start saying "Y'all" and about a week to utter "All Y'all" - which is infinitely preferable to the Californian "You Guys". ;^)

Anyway, we're just hoping Costa can get their act together by April. So awful what happened to those poor people - especially after reading how excited they were in the Roll Call.

You are so right about that. Of course "y'all" is much better than "youse guys......."

Was thinking about you when I heard about the Costa tragedy. I bet that they not only get their act together but go overboard with making sure that everything goes right.

Interestingly, the BBC had a commentary about the difficulties on being on a ship where the language spoken is not the passenger's native language.
