Thread: Going to aruba - need advice on taking a cab to a local beach

HELLO FELLOW CRUISERS,

I WILL BE GOING ON A PRINCESS CRUISE TO ARUBA IN OCTOBER AND ONE OF THE PORTS IS ARUBA.

I DONT' LIKE THE TOURS THAT PRICESS IS OFFERING.

DO THEY HAVE A TOUR DESK AT ARUBAS PORT?

HAS ANYONE GONE TO ANY OF THE LOCAL BEACHES TAKING A PRIVATE CAB?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE SO HELPFUL.

Hey Jen! Welcome to our friendly cruise community!

We were in Aruba a few years ago but it was a land trip so I don't know if there is a tour desk...however, I have visited a lot of Caribbean islands by cruise ship and there has always been plenty of local tour guides trying to get your business.

Jen! Everyone at CLF is very friendly so join right in and make yourself completely at home.

Aruba has some lovely beaches but you will need to take a taxi. You'll not have a problem finding independent tours offered by locals.

Aruba has some gorgeous beaches over by all the hotels, like previous posts, can get a taxi at the dock and be there in no time. We went to De Palm Island thru a cruise tour and it was great. This was 2.5 yrs ago. Orangestad (spelling?) main town by the dock was a bit run down w/alot of closed or boarded up stores, still has some nice shopping though. got a fabulous deal on tanzanite there.

We ended up taking a taxi ride around Aruba after I had to cancel my ship sponsored tour (long story, it was the day I spent most of the morning in the Noordam's infirmary after the ship supplied hair drier exploded in my hand and I could not get medical help until the infirmary opened) Anyway, after my wife got back from the tour, she insisted on my seeing the island (the infirmary, by the way, does not have a first aid kit). We rented a cab for several hours.

Great tour, we went to all the beaches, to the local spots, and saw some wonderful scenery and got some great local information. Our cab driver was excellent. We picked up the cab right off the ship.

All of the good beaches are on the south side of the island. The water is just too treacherous on the north.
