    Question Cruise Virgin

I am married, 54, with three teenage children and we have never cruised. We all enjoy scuba and snorkeling. I live in Pennsylvania. We all are picky about our sleeping arrangements and like our own comfortable beds--any suggestions?

aboard Nolika. Glad you found us.

I think everyone has a different opinion on comfortable beds. I personally have never had a bad one on a ship, but I think that's because I love the sway of the ship which lulls me to sleep in a NY minute. I have heard Holland has great beds, but have not sailed them personally.

I have to warn you, once you take a cruise, you will be looking for another immediately. No matter what the comfort of the bed is.

I agree with Hanna - everyone's opinion on what's comfortable is different. One person will think a bed is too soft while another will say that same bed is too hard. In 40 cruises, we've found all sorts of beds, but if it's uncomfortable, then we make it work by requesting a 'topper'. This can consist of the egg-crate foam pad or the new memory-foam pad, but will make the bed more comfortable.

Any of the newer beds are fairly comfortable, so we haven't found any problems lately.

Personally, I would never select a cruise based on beds, but based on price, itinerary, amenities, etc.

If you're planning your first cruise, best advice is talk to a Cruise Specialist who can help with all the details and answer all your questions.

Welcome to our friendly cruise community!

Planning is half the fun of cruising! You will find lots of information on our forums that will help you to know what to expect when you finally set your foot on that ship deck!

One thing I definitely suggest, and that is to get 2 cabins...one for you and hubby and one for the kids. Possibly a balcony for you and an inside cabin across the hall for your kids. You will all be much happier than if you tried to stay in one cabin.

Have a look around and ask away!

Carnival has comfortable beds .. at least compared to RCL and Princess. They sell their beds and comfort collection.

I think RCI sells their bedding also. I found the Epic to have the most comfortable beds. Then again I have slept on Carnival where everyone says they are the best and must have had the bed where all the 400 lb men slept and there was a big sag in mine. I was just on RCI last week and had a saggy bed. The next morning I left a note on the bed for the steward to put an egg crate on and no more problems.

The one main thing about beds is that if you happen to get onboard a brand new ship or a ship that's just been through refurbishment, the beds are going to be alot more comfortable than those that have been on there for a couple of years.

But as with most things, as I said earlier, what one likes another will dislike.

I do agree with Char in that you should really be looking at two cabins, especially with 3 teens - I would not even suggest putting all 5 of you in one cabin - that would be disasterous.
