Hey all, I'm new to the site, and to cruising! My boyfriend and I are finally looking into booking our first cruise. My question is, is it possible to prepay excursions before even boarding the ship? Since I've never cruised, I'm not really sure how all of that works. Thanks ahead of time!

Hi kelly and welcome to cruiselinefans!
and the answer is absolutely yes you can prepay for excursions.. the cruise industry has made it so easy that you can prepay almost everything.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need .. we love new cruisers here...and at CLF you get all the knowledge with-out the "critical" opinions..

When are you looking to set sail?

Welcome to cruislinefans If you book with a tour directly you will pay ahead but if you miss a port for any reason you wil llose the money. If you book through the cruiseline you can prepay through your TA or direct, BUT if you miss the port you will not be charged for the tour. If you prepay you will be refunded.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

You are going to like it here at CLF!!

If you cruise on HAL -- you can book their shore excursions ahead of time -- and you pay for them via credit card ahead of time (they do not go on your shipboard account).

Welcome to CLF! While I have only been on one cruise, I do extensive research about cruising and ports and really enjoy living vicariously through others' cruising stories. Hope that you enjoy the board

Some cruiselines will give you the option of putting the excursions on your account. On Princess, for example, you can book the excursions online about a couple of months ahead of the cruise. You can still cancel at any time up to a day or two that port. And as Sue stated, if that port is skipped or the excursion is cancelled (weather conditions, usually), you won't be charged for an excursion booked through the cruiseline. If you want to prepay the excursions, you can ask your travel agent to make those arrangements (sometimes you can pay for an onboard credit to be applied to your expenses).
