Orient Express to Venice, but that would cost more than the cruise

It could be possible to get to the south of France or Italy by train and maybe get a cruise from there.

MCcruiser got in first with the Queen Elizabeth cruise. I like the sound of that cruise, the downside is it's 19 nights and the brochure price for a D8 is over £2,000. Due to the distance involved, you will be lucky to find anything shorter which does not involve flying.
Stephen, the ones I saw on P&O were longer! and more money.

I only looked at cruises that left out of the UK. I should have looked at cruises that already started at the Mediterranean as well. But wouldn't trains to Barcelona, Rome, Venice or Athens be expensive as well? And then you would want to get there a day before, so you would have to deal with hotels and transfers, which are costly in Rome an Venice.

But which of these is a best solution is something only the OP can answer.

Yes I would not fancy making my way to Spain or Italy by train then an overnight before getting on the ship. For me direct would be the best option if time and finances allowed.

It is a bit expensive, but it is a phenomenal cruise. Stephen, I thought that the intra-EU rail industry was quite good. Am I mistaken?

I have never tried it, but from what I understand it is pretty good, but still it would not be "easy" with luggage.

If I don't know the answer I'm fairly certain I can find it.
