Hello everyone, my name is Mike.
I am about to take voluntary redundancy / retirement at the end of August after 40 years in the railway industry.
Since we married almost 22 years ago I had been trying to get my wife to take a cruising holiday but apart from a Nile cruise in 1998 she steadfastly refused until 2008. Now I can’t keep her away from cruising.
We started on the Independence of the Seas in October 2008 to the Canaries, Portugal and Spain, followed by a Western Mediterranean cruise last June on the Grand Princess.
This year we are booked on the Baltic cruise from Harwich on board Jewel of the Seas sailing on the 24th June. I am aware of the Norovirus outbreak onboard the Jewel, but suspect there is little we can do apart from the obvious with hand gels and remedies from the chemist. Any tips would be welcome however.
As my retirement present we are booked on the Red Sea cruise from Dover in October 2011 onboard the Black Watch.
Currently I am looking at the possibility of a cruise to the Fjords onboard the Queen Elizabeth next spring.

Since there's a couple of weeks until your cruise, most likely it'll be a cleaned up and spiffy ship for your sailing.
