Nice to know you live among the Portuguese. In fact Portuguese people can be found all over the world. As you must have seen in my introdutory post, we lived in South Africa for some time.
Also nice to know you're from Californa, we have some friends there ourselves and in July/Augost 2003, we were there. We stayed in Castro Valley and we had the chance to visit several parts like: San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, Santa Cruz beach, Reno (where we stayed overnight), Big Trees, Marine World, we also went to Oakley, to one of those gatherings organized by the Azorean people, I believe, where we are offered a meal, among the Portuguese this is refered to as "Sopas", meaning Soups.
So, as you can see, we had a very good time in California.
Welcome and We're Glad You Joined our Friendly Community. It is such a small world. I grew up in Antioch which is the City (more the size of a town) where I grew up.
My family had so many friends in Oakley and back in those days my Dad was very popular in the community. He and his brother owned a small grocery in Brentwood and took such great care of the folks in the area. We were always heading to Oakley for family gatherings. And many families I didn't know but my Dad sure did. Welcome Again!!

Hello Debbie,
Thank you for your kind welcome and you're right, you are a Friendly Community. I never imagined I was going to get such a good reception.
It is interesting to think that we, living so far apart from each other, came to meet here and find out that, at some point in our lives, we were in the same place.
I see you are from the Bay area. I loved going there. San Francisco has some kind of magic about it, the name is known all over the world, which is enough to bring out our curiousity.
When we were there, we drove down Lombard street, crossed Golden Gate Bridge, were in Fisherman´s Warf, took part in a Bay Cruise which took us near the Brigde and then went round Alcatraz Island.
As I can see, your father and his brother were very famous in the area, that was good, that way you had the opportunity to meet lots of people.
Eusébia, my daughter and her boyfriend are living in South Africa so I have learned a little bit about that area over the last year. There is still a lot I don't know, though!
Welcome to the board!

So nice to know Funchal is one of your favorite places, I feel so honoured by that.
Porto Santa Maria is very well placed, as you can walk the entire town from there, not having to worry about transport all the time.
As I can see, you enjoy walking and Madeira is well know for its levadas and pathways. How long did it take you to walk from Săo Vicente to Seixal? When you come back to Madeira, remember us!
That's right, we passed by Sacramento on our way to Lake Tahoe. We were taken there by a good friend of ours, Manuel Marques, I wonder if you know him, as he is very well positioned in the construction business. He took us to his country house, in the north part of the Lake Tahoe area.
I'm curious now: Are you Swedish or American?
Well when we asked the locals in Sao Vicente how far it was to Seixal they all said it was not too far. As you know it is quite a walk. It seemed like we walked for hours. We had a great time there. No tourists. We had a nice dinner by the sea which was very angry the night we were there. We do not know your friend Manuel. Lake Tahoe is so beautiful both in the summer and the winter. I am American and my wife is Swedish. We met online about 10 years ago. Lee
