Hello Hanna,

Thank you for your friendly welcome.

Nice to know you live among the Portuguese. In fact Portuguese people can be found all over the world. As you must have seen in my introdutory post, we lived in South Africa for some time.

Also nice to know you're from Californa, we have some friends there ourselves and in July/Augost 2003, we were there. We stayed in Castro Valley and we had the chance to visit several parts like: San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, Santa Cruz beach, Reno (where we stayed overnight), Big Trees, Marine World, we also went to Oakley, to one of those gatherings organized by the Azorean people, I believe, where we are offered a meal, among the Portuguese this is refered to as "Sopas", meaning Soups.

So, as you can see, we had a very good time in California.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for the welcome.

Nice to know that you know Madeira already.

Blandy's is still there! The difference is that, next time, you'll be spending euros instead of escudos. Since the 1st January 2002 our currency is the euro. One euro equals 200 escudos.

For those wondering what Blandy's is all about: it's a very famous wine lodge in Funchal.
