My wife and I are hoping to take our first cruise in the near future. We hear the Alaska voyages are great. Which line do readers here like best for Alaska cruises? Does the captain of the ship make a difference? That's what Elaine from Bowie MD told me once at the polls during some dead time. If so, how to find out who the captain of a particular cruise is?
Welcome to CLF Kookoonut! We're SO glad you found us! regarding your question about whether who the captain is on a ship making a difference...........some may feel it does and it might because obviously, the ship is run by the captain. However, that said.....I've been on several cruises and I feel the cruiseline is what makes the real difference. We all have our favorites and you being new to cruising can look forward to finding yours! It'll be a blast, try as many as you can. We'll be waiting to hear what you think. Whoooo Hooooo!!
A first cruise! You will remember that one forever!
You will find a lot of useful information on our various forums. Please explore and ask your questions...our experienced cruisers will enjoy sharing their knowledge and opinions with you.
An Alaskan cruise is a great choice for a first cruise.
As stated above, many here will have a favorite cruiseline to suggest. My Alaskan cruise was on Princess, which is very experienced with this itinerary and has several choices (round trip out of Seattle or San Francisco and one-ways between Vancouver and Whitter/Anchorage). Princess also provides a naturalist onboard during the glacier cruising leg (HAL and I think Celebrity also have one too) to narrate what you're seeing.

Hi Welcome. Do you like to stay at Best Western or the Hyatt when you travel? How old are you? These may help to determine which cruise line you would like the best. The Captain of the ship is essentially the ship's seniormost visiable "Martha Stewart" of the cruise as far as most passengers can tell. Yes, he is very much involved in the running of the actual vessel but on cruise ships his function and visability is that of the head of cruise society.
OVER 40 (started young) Princess, Celebrity, RCCL, HAL, NCL, Costa, Disney, Carnival, Sitmar (Princess bought), and (a very long time ago) SS Bahama Star
