Explosion Hits Independent of the Seas in Gibraltar

A dozen passengers on board Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas were injured after an explosion in the port of Gibraltar yesterday.

The ship, carrying more than 4,000 passengers, felt the force of the explosion in a nearby fuel storage tank.

Saw this on Reuters. Report was that the Captain ordered an emergency embarkation to sea -- probably a better idea than hanging around to see what would blow up next.

I thought the last line in the last paragraph was an understatement!

With nerves already frayed, we headed for Cannes and were greeted by 80mph winds and 30ft waves: “The worst storm we have ever seen in the Med”, according to one of the crew. This is proving to be rather a memorable cruise.
