    South Florida is really hurting

Hi everyone...we survived Wilma only to view the devastation that she left behind. Miami to Ft. Lauderdale has suffered major destruction. We don't expect power to be restored for 2-4 weeks....YIKES! We are not really dealling with the reality that we could be without power for a month! I am hoping for the best but not really expecting it. We are currently at Disney World! We went for a short drive around the neighborhood and couldn't believe the number of trees that were uprooted. We totally wimped out and opted for hot showers, hot meals, tv and a/c at Disney! Plus, as passholders, we already have unlimited access to all the parks. It's a nice diversion for our little one! Please send prayers to everyone affected by this disaster.

This is actually worse than Andrew in that Andrew was confined to south Miami....this hurricane has hit everywhere from Key West to Martin County. There are no restaurants/food stores/gas stations open....you have to drive 3 hrs to get to Orlando...the closest city not affected by the hurricane. I don't know how people are going to survive 2-4 weeks without food/gas??? I may become a Disney World resident!
The other problem is that this one hit the financial/business districts of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale....the economic impact will be huge.

Oh, geeze... I PM'd you before I found this thread!

I knew there had been fairly major damage, but had no idea it was this bad.

    What can I do, MT?

When do you have to be back at work?

Good Question CM....I don't know if I have an office to go back to work at...I heard the courthouse sustained serious damage. My office is next door so I'm guessing we suffered some too. Without electricity, there is no way of conducting court....my judge's courtroom is a small conference-type room...no windows so no lighting...can we do it by candlelight??? Probably not....and I'm not really looking forward to climbing the stairs to the 9th floor....so I'm guessing it will be at least next week...assuming power is restored by then. The storm knocked out alot of cell phone towers so no one is getting a signal in the area....finally reached a friend in South Miami today...couldn't reach anyone yesterday driving up to Orlando....no service until we reached here. There were also no lights along either side of the turnpike from Ft. Lauderdale up through Martin county and beyond. The effects are really widespread.

Thanks so much for reporting in. I am waiting to hear from JoeinWPB CLF member. I got an email early yesterday morning before he thought he would loose electricity. I feel bad for him becausehe just got off Mariner of the Seas Sunday and then had to cope with this. Mai Tai Mama it is good that you were able to get a room in Orlando, I am sure that many will soon be trying to do what you have done if electricity is not restored soon. I am gald to hear you are all alright I just pray our other friends made it thru safely with little to no damage.

    Again Thanks for reporting in.
