Sue, welcome back. Glad you had a great cruise.Things are improving slowly. Schools are closed for 2 weeks, but may reopen Monday, although some will not be ready. The positive part is how people have pulled together and the help that has arrived from all over the country. It is truly a humbling experience. The power in my neighborhood was restored by a company from Virginia. A crew from Ohio is working on my son's elementary school. There is a debris removal company is our area from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I have been giving work crews from all over directions to different job sites. All the street signs are gone, so it is a challenge even for locals to find their way around. Plus, everything looks different, so you don't recognize anything anymore.

JV, thanks for checking in. So sorry to hear about the devastation. Our news here doesn't give us much on your situation. Take care of yourselves.

    JV -
If I were to mail you a 'care package' - for you or someone you know, what would it need to have in it?

JV, it is humbling and so scary. Coming home, we passed several light trucks from Mississippi on the alley. The huge miles signs were down, mud, debris, and grass intwined in the alligator fences, trees down. Unbelievable!! But we are tough John and we get through it. We are never alone. We are America where everyone pulls together when needed!! If we can help with anything at all, you give a holler!! Friends do that!!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

    Oh, hanna - I wish!
It doesn't take a lot to mail a few items into an area where those items are temporarily hard to get because store shelves are thin!

(All the deductions to CSI are tax deductible, though... thank goodness!)

Thanks, everyone for the offers of assistance, but I think we'll be okay. They say donations to charities that provide shelter to the newly homeless are the most needed. They say those charities are tapped out after last year's 4 hurricanes, the tsunami, Katrina and Rita, not to mention the earthquake in the Middle East. The papers have pictures each morning of elderly people being hustled out of their condos because the roof may collapse. About every other day, someone dies from a traffic accident at an intersection with no signal,or from touching a downed power line, or from carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator.
