EXTENDED RANGE FORECAST OF ATLANTIC SEASONAL HURRICANE ACTIVITY AND U.S. LANDFALL STRIKE PROBABILITY FOR 2009
We foresee average activity for the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season. We have decreased our seasonal forecast from our initial early December prediction. We anticipate an average probability of United States major hurricane landfall.

Hurricane experts at Colorado State University have scaled back their prediction for the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season, predicting an average season with 12 named storms, including six hurricanes.
Two of those storms, experts said, could be major hurricanes with Category 3 winds or higher.

Dr. Gray said Tuesday the forecast was dialed down because of improved chances of El Niño conditions that suppress hurricane formation.

I came in to work today, and they were giving out Evacuation Maps out like the one here:

I am in the green, which means we evacuate 3rd. It used to mean that we evacuated for Cat. 3 or 4 (I forget which), but they don't print that any more. The zones use the same boundaries as zip codes, since it makes it easier for the evacuees.

If you take a close look, you will see that this map expires next month. I guess that's when we start using a Floridian evacuation plan.
