    special tropical disturbance statement

satellite images indicate that the low pressure system centered
about 250 miles...400 km...southeast of wilmington north carolina
is acquiring some tropical characteristics. This system could
become a tropical or subtropical cyclone later today or tonight as
it moves westward or west-northwestward. The low is accompanied by
winds of up to 65 mph...100 km/hr...to the north and northwest of
the center. Regardless of development this system will bring
    strong winds...coastal flooding...high surf...and dangerous rip
currents to portions of the u.s. East coast during the next couple
of days. See statements from local national weather service
forecast offices for additional information and warnings. An air
force hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the
    system this afternoon.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

This is the one that Dr Jeff Masters says has a slight possibility of interacting with the invest in a possiblie fujiwara effect!

If that happened, it would really be a wild card!

Also... this system has NO organized center yet... so cannot be classified as either a tropical or even a subtropical cyclone at this time.

HOWEVER -it ALREADY has 'winds to hurricane force," according the the 2 PM TWGO!

    1. SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED ABOUT 250 MILES SOUTHEAST OF WILMINGTON NORTH CAROLINA HAS CHANGED LITTLE IN ORGANIZATION OVER THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS. THERE IS STILL THE POTENTIAL FOR THIS SYSTEM TO BECOME A TROPICAL OR SUBTROPICAL CYCLONE LATER TODAY OR TONIGHT AS IT DRIFTS WESTWARD. THE LOW IS PARTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR AN AREA OF WINDS TO HURRICANE FORCE WELL TO THE NORTH AND NORTHWEST OF THE CENTER. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING STRONG WINDS...COASTAL FLOODING...HIGH SURF...AND DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS TO PORTIONS OF THE U.S. EAST COAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. SEE STATEMENTS FROM LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICES AND HIGH SEAS FORECASTS ISSUED BY THE OCEAN PREDICTION CENTER IN WASHINGTON D.C. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND WARNINGS. AN AIR FORCE HURRICANE HUNTER IS SCHEDULED TO INVESTIGATE THE SYSTEM LATER TODAY.

    NEWS-TIMES
Published: Wednesday, September 24, 2008 2:08 PM EDT
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RALEIGH — Due to high winds and water, the N.C. Department of Transportation's ferry division has canceled its afternoon runs between Swan Quarter and Ocracoke, Cedar Island and Ocracoke, and Cherry Branch and Minnesott Beach. The Currituck-Knotts Island ferry will end service at 3:30 p.m.

In addition, the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route is running on the hour instead of the half hour, and is expected to end service at 6:30 p.m. The Southport-Fort Fisher and Bayview-Aurora ferry routes are currently running as regularly scheduled.

Passengers should call 1-800-BY-FERRY for updated information as conditions may continue to change.
