    TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
    200 AM EDT SAT AUG 30 2008

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON HURRICANE GUSTAV...LOCATED ABOUT 50 MILES NORTHEAST OF GRAND CAYMAN ISLAND...AND ON TROPICAL STORM HANNA...LOCATED ABOUT 260 MILES NORTH OF SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO.

    1. DISORGANIZED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED ABOUT 1100 MILES EAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE ONLY MARGINALLY FAVORABLE...AND ANY DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM SHOULD BE SLOW TO OCCUR AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH.

    2. A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED ABOUT 100 MILES SOUTH OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS IS SHOWING SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION. CONDITIONS APPEAR TO BE CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND A TROPICAL DEPRESSION COULD FORM DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH. THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BRING SHOWERS AND SQUALLS TO THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS TODAY AND EARLY ON SUNDAY.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

WARINING: What follows is the rant of a cranky old lady up past her bedtime!

There is a kid (looks like he's about 17) on The Weather Channel who is just driving me nuts.

Twice in the last hour he talked about 'The Caymans' while clearly looking and pointing at the Isle of Youth on the map. MAKE THAT THREE TIMES! He just pointed at the Isle of Youth and said "There's Grand Cayman."

Do they not teach geography in school anymore????? Even so, could he not just REVIEW a map of the Caribbean before going on the air on national TV??? There are actually NAMES on maps that he could (hopefully) read . . .

Then, just now, he said Hanna could affect the Caicos Islands.
Glad I don't pay attention to him Sheila.

    2. Shower And Thunderstorm Activity Also Has Increased In Association With A Broad Area Of Low Pressure Located About 375 Miles West Of The Cape Verde Islands. Conditions Appear To Be Conducive For Development And A Tropical Depression Could Form During The Next Day Or Two As This System Moves Westward At 10 To 15 Mph.
