Oh boy, 33 days!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Our season may still be 28 days away, but Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) got absolutely clocked this weekend by Cyclone Nargis.
She was a strong Cat3 / weak Cat4 at landfall . . . worst one ever for Myanmar. . . death toll already stands at 351, and the worst areas are completely cut off, so no telling how high it might go!
Terrible storm surge in a low lying area. BAD BAD combination.
So sad Sheila!!

Any guesses as to when Arthur will make his debut?
23 and a hlf days until OUR hurricane season begins.
Meanwhile . . . the world is still learning about the magnitude of the tragedy in Myanmar (Burma) hit by Nargis last weekend. Death toll from the storm is ovre 20,000... and the eventual death toll, including from disease in the aftermath, could reach 100,000. The government there has done next to nothing to provide clean drinking water where the water supply was contaminated.
It was about the same strength as Katrina when she hit our coast, but Nargis had a hurricane force windfield that was about 90 miles in diameter, whereas Katrina's was 205.
The government in Burma did little, if anything, to even warn its people that Nargis was coming, and the rest of the world (including the US) is still pleading with those same government officials to allow outside help to come in.

22 days until the SEASON begins.
There is a LOT of dust coming off the coast of Aftica this year. This may have a moderating affect on the hurricane season.
On the other hand, if you are sailing to the Caribbean right now, reports are that it is VERY hazy looking in wide portions of the eastern and northern Caribbean.
