the additional strengthening is what got my attention. Hopefully everyone has secured their property and themselves, stocked up on food, batteries and candles and is ready to settle in for the long haul.
Dean looks like he will impact Jamaica mostly during daylight hours, which if there is a preference that is it. It is scary to have this happen in the night with no power and all the noise outside - not knowing what you are going to find when daylight comes.
Stay safe everyone, will keep the reports coming once it has started for as long as possible
Our sincerest thoughts and wishes go out to our neighbours to the east who have suffered Dean's wrath, please know this.

Mrs. Simpson Miller urged Jamaicans to take thehurricane threat seriously and to respond toevacuation orders. "The JUTC has made available 50 buses on standby toevacuate residents to shelters should it be necessary.All police, prison, fire officers and other members ofthe essential services who were on leave must nowreport to their respective organizations as part ofthe preparations to boost our security, search andrescue capabilities," said Mrs. Simpson Miller. There are current 200 shelters in Western Jamaica,most of which are schools .For the Capital City the main shelter will be theNational Area which has the capability of seatingthousands,(reminds me of Super Dome in Katrina)andseveral schools will be used as shelters.Jamaicans are urged to stock up as water as there willlikely be a disruption of service.The JPS has activated its emergency plan, WindsomeCallum said this after noon that in approaches theisland as a Category 4 the power Grid will be shutdown,meaning no light.HealthThe Kingston Public Hospital from this afternoon andinto tomorrow will be discharging patients that areable to move around,and only emergency surgeries willbe accepted.This will likely be a thumb rule for most if not allof the countries hospitals. Earlier today I went to the supermarket,Market toprepare for Hurricane Dean and I was surprised at thelarge crowds of people.In great demand were flashlights,lanterns and batterypowered radios,and a few stores I visited were short.I also visited the market to buy some kerosene oil formy storm lantern and there was a long line waiting,notonly was the wait long,but know Dean was coming thevendor increased the price to 400ja dollars a gallon from 350.On the streets,Dean was on the mind of everyone,Icould hear many people discussing how worried theywere and their hope that it changes course .Latest Release from metservice *** HURRICANE WATCH NOW IN EFFECT FOR JAMAICA* * *A Hurricane Watch is now in effect for Jamaica asHurricane Dean, the first Hurricane of the 2007Atlantic Hurricane Season, continues to move towardsthe island. Perry Declares Hurricane Dean Imminent Threat to Texas if (document.layers) {document.write(''); document.close();}coreAdsCreate('wnsz_20', 'loc', '100');
From The Office of Governor Rick Perry:
AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry today declared Hurricane Dean an imminent threat to Texas, initiating full-scale state hurricane preparedness efforts. Perry activated state resources, including search and rescue teams, as National Weather Service projections show Hurricane Dean could impact the Texas coast by the middle of next week.
"With the potential of another major storm entering the Gulf of Mexico and threatening the Texas coast, now is the time to begin mobilizing our resources and implementing our plan to ensure an orderly response before landfall," Perry said. "As we continue to monitor Hurricane Dean, the state is preparing to deploy ample resources, manpower and equipment to meet any potential need to ensure the safety of Texas residents."
Gov. Perry ordered the following state resources activated and actions to be taken:
250 Texas Military Forces (TMF) command personnel to support the potential activation and deployment of up to 10,000 TMF soldiers, if necessary
Texas Task Force 1 in Bryan/College Station - 300 personnel
Texas Task Force 2 in Dallas - 160 personnel
Texas Forest Service Lonestar Task Force - 80 personnel
250 Texas Parks and Wildlife Department crews with boats
The Texas fuel industry has begun surging fuel loads to all coastal counties to ensure adequate fuel supply
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin displaying public service announcements at noon today in costal counties advising residents to keep their gas tanks full
TxDOT has also begun pre-positioning resources and sweeping evacuation corridors in preparation of extra evacuation lanes and contraflow
The State Operations Center (SOC) will be fully activated at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, and twice daily conference calls are being held with local elected officials, first responders, mass care providers, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the National Weather Service to assess the latest weather projections and to coordinate state and local preparation and response.
If Dean continues to strengthen and threaten Texas, additional emergency forces could be activated and deployed in the coming days to appropriate staging areas near the Texas coast.
"As the state works with local leaders to activate emergency response plans, it is imperative that Texans living along the coast pay close attention to threatening weather conditions and heed the warnings of their local leaders," Perry said.

Blanco declares state of emergency in advance of Dean
Associated Press Reporting
Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco is declaring a state of emergency tonight as emergency preparedness workers continue to monitor Hurricane Dean's path toward the Gulf of Mexico.
At the same time, Blanco is sending a request to President Bush asking for a declaration that would allow federal resources to flow to the state should the storm strike any part of the Louisiana coast.
Based on projections, there was a slim chance of the storm jumping northward toward Louisiana. Still, it was enough of a chance to put Louisiana emergency preparedness officials on high alert, given the weakened condition of the state's coastline since it was pummeled by hurricanes Katrina and Rita a little less than two years ago.
Mark Smith, with the governor's office of emergency preparedness, says all critical state agencies would be staffed through the weekend.
They'll be ready, if needed, to make calls to contract workers who would move supplies to needed areas and to local government leaders who would provide evacuation orders.

Gov. Haley Barbour and FEMA officials on Friday warned Mississippians to prepare a plan of action in case Hurricane Dean turns and threatens the Gulf Coast next week.
Barbour said it was imperative that the 13,000 families still living in FEMA travel trailers be evacuated if an order has to be issued.
"Today people in Mississippi don't need to panic, but they need to think," Barbour said.
Barbour had been meeting with Gil H. Jamieson, FEMA's Associate Deputy Administrator-Gulf Coast Recovery, to review the state's hurricane preparedness plan and ongoing Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.
Jamieson said there were 1.7 million liters of water, 1.3 million packaged meals, fuel, generators and other supplies stored at a facility in Purvis.
"We are ready for this hurricane that's out in the Atlantic," Jamieson said.
On Friday, Dean left a path of destruction through the eastern Caribbean islands of St. Lucia and Martinique. The Category 2 storm was headed to Jamaica and by next week, when it is projected to reach Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula and Central America, it could strengthen into a dangerous Category 4 hurricane.
While the storm isn't projected to hit the coast, Barbour said it was better to err on the side of caution.
Barbour said people should think about where they will go if an evacuation is ordered and how they'll travel. He said people should make sure they have fuel, water, and a source of communication if electricity is lost.
"No government is big enough to do everything for everybody," Barbour said.
State and federal officials said they learned lessons about preparedness after Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast in August 2005. The region is still trying to recover after the storm and remains plagued by housing and some economic development problems.
