I spoke too soon.
Erin may have been no news this morning, but she has been making news in Houston since then. Although it looks like the bulk of the storm is well inland, there is one long tail that has been keeping things interesting in a bad way, since it is picking up moisture from the Gulf and dumping it on land before it travels very far. The rain has stopped for now, and it looks like the band I described is moving further north. I think once the whole thing is over land, things will be better.
This morning my office sent out a flash flood notice and gave the link to the traffice website, and the part for road closures due to high water. Thank God. I was supposed to go into town for a doctor's appointment, but I check the site and found out that there was high water near the Medical Center. Postponed the appt. It looks like 7 inches fell in that area in 4 hours.
There has been an unsubstantiated report of a man hit by lightning near NASA, but most of the news is rain related. My office is seeing some leaks in the ceiling on the top floor, but the big news is that the roof to a grocery store nearby fell in trapping 2 men. 1 is reported dead and the other injured. This store is one mile from my office.
1 Dead, 1 Injured In Ceiling Collapse

HOUSTON -- One person was killed and another was injured when part of a ceiling collapsed at a southeast Houston grocery store on Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Emergency crews were sent to the Randalls store on Clear Lake City Boulevard at Space Center Boulevard shortly before noon.
Officials said the ceiling in the loading dock area in the back part of the store collapsed onto two people.
A man in his 30s was pulled out of the rubble after he was trapped by ceiling debris and a metal beam.
The body of a second victim is still trapped, officials said.
The victims' names were not released, but they were described as employees or delivery drivers.
The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but may be attributed to the weather because it happened during severe storms.
