Exclamation Carnival Ecstacy takes on Hurricane Rita!

Ever wonder what it looks like for a Cruise Ship to cruise into a Hurricane? Here are some pictures of the Carnival Ecstacy in Hurrican Rita a few years ago. I am sure they are on the outside edges of the hurricane. But, you can see from these pictures why the cruise lines try to stay away from the hurricanes as much as possible and why many choose not to book a cruise during hurricane season or if they do, they buy the Insurance!

Here is a blurb on this picture set I found:

"Carnival Cruise Line ship Ecstasy had been operating out of the Port of
Galveston since October of 2004. On September 6, 2005, she was
contracted by FEMA following Hurricane Katrina to serve as temporary shelter for Louisiana evacuees and was relocated to a few days later to New Orleans to house emergency personnel. On September 24, New Orleans was again in the direct path of another Huricane. As Huricane Rita made its way towards land, the Ecstasy and Carnival Senssation were directed out to sea to ride out the storm. These photographs were taken by the crew of the Sensation as the Ecstasy was battered by Huricane Rita.

Jubilee rocked pretty good just up in Alaska so I bet she rocked quite a bit in a Hurricane (don't know if she has the modern stabilizer designs or not)

We stayed out to sea and missed 2 ports trying to outrun it. 1/2 the crew and 3/4 of the passengers were sea sick and everyone was either in tennis shoes or barefeet because it was so hard to walk with the ROCKING!!

But at least me and hubby found out that the motion in the ocean doesn't bother us a bit!!!

Those pictures were awesome, I viewed it as a slide show. and it came alive. It is hard to imagine I was on that same ship just a couple of months prior to that storm... WOW, thank goodness I have not had any rocking like that on my cruises.

    Thanks for sharing
