I prefer early booking to get the cabin I want at a price I am willing to pay. I just booked a cruise for October 2012 to get that.![]()
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Are you willing to ttake the chance that a "Fire Sale" on the cruise you want won't happen? Or are you willing to take any cruise that a Fire Sale appears for?
I have tended to book the early fares for the last few years.
For our last cruise I had to go with a fire sale after the cruise we had booked on the Splendor was canceled.

I never wait for a fire sale.
Whenever we see a cruise that we are interested in -- we book it.
We know the type of cabin and location that we want -- so book early.

I agree with the majority; book early so you can get the cabin you want. Plus, that may very well be the lowest price offered, especially during high traveled times.
And almost always, if they offer a special your agent can get you the lower rate even after you've booked, provided it's before final payment and doesn't have the stipulation that it's for 'new bookings only'.
And lastly, if you wait till the last minute, the sale you're waiting for may not happen and if it does, you end up paying more for your airfare.
So it's always best to book as early as possible; gives you plenty of time to plan, provides the best cabin, and may be the best price.
I always find it really funny that people will spend hours and hours and hours shopping around to save $25 on a $1000 cruise! But they won't spend 10 minutes to get a second opinion when their car needs $1000 worth of work. Go figure.
