    Another question for the drinkers

    Hello Cruisers ,

My first trip is due in a few weeks... I have been on here for ages doing my homework..

I see that bringing your own alcohol aboard is taboo.. Do they actually search your suitcases for the stuff... or just the hand baggage ??

I am not much of a boozer anyway so its not that important, However, can any recent travellers tell me what I will pay for a small lager, or a vodka and coke ??
    Travelling on Diamond Princess..

    thanks
    Chris

Since I'm not a drinker (unless it's the watered-down freebie type), I'm not sure about the costs, but this may give you some idea of the cost of some booze (this is a bon voyage list, but maybe similar items are sold at the bars for the same amount):

    Princess Cellars : Princess Cruises®.

I thought the cans of soda were about $2 to $3 (including gratuity), but there is a soda card you can buy (there will be tables everywhere when you board) on the first day that will cost about 3.75 (plus grats) per day. So for a seven day cruise, this is about $30, I believe. But since I'm a Pepsi person, I haven't bought one of these in many, many years. Princess is one of those cruiselines that allow you to bring on soda, water and wine. Your suitcases are x-rayed as well s your carry-ons, but not sure if they would open luggage and remove liquor bottles. Some cruiselines will call you to a special room if they see something like that in your bags.

Suitcases and hand luggage are scanned just as they do at the airport. If bottles show on the screen when scanning your hand luggage, they will check it and if they contain alcohol, it will be taken away and returned at the end of the cruise. They are a lot stricter now with liquor and other prohibited items such as traveling irons, candles, etc.
