How do you save money FOR your cruise?

    Here's my list:
Have a separate vacation savings account at the bank
"help" friends with garage sales - by selling some of my stuff too
    Sell excess stuff on eBay
    Sell books on Half.com
Keep a change jar - actually I use a coin sorter - and deposit the change periodically
Put all rebate checks, etc. in the vacation account
Have a set amount put into the vacation account each pay period.

I have never done the dave for the trip thing, until this cruise soming up. Mainly because we are also doing Disney this July first, and probably the July following! Sooo, I have my 128 ounce container for change and dollar bills. It does add up fast. I have also glued the top onso I can't take it off and put it on etc....just slide the money through the little slit I made. I am probably going to put something on EBay too...just not sure what yet.

Irishcat... Can we all be your friends? I am sure you could get us some good rates for cruising. That would save us some money!

    Great ideas!

Last year I got CHEAP airfare in Jan. So booked to FLL knowing we wanted to take a cruise.
($128 RT KC-FLL). Knew Oct. was cheaper cruise season, plus we have week off...checked many online resources...Booked cruise in May, final payment in July.
Hotwired hotel rooms in Sept. So spreading payments out over many months helped.
I do a big garage sale each year (3 kids, we need one at least every other year!), and that $ is designated trip $.
Otherwise, we also include it in our monthly budget.
    Happy cruising!

Kristin, that is really good planning. I need to be more like you. I'm way too impulsive.

We do a simular thing. Karen gets paid every two weeks and we get enough cash from it to last the next two weeks.. We have a list we keep with the money accounting for everytime we take cash out of it.. Everytime she gets paid, whatever is left in the cash box goes into the cruise fund. It varies from $40.- $140 depending on how much we spent that pay period... We can easily cruise three times a year, without having to use a lot of household moneys..
