    Possible Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Suspected

    Doubletree Grand Key Resort

(CBS4) KEY WEST A Key West resort hotel remains closed, and guests have been sent to other area hotels, following an investigation in the death of one guest who may have been exposed to dangerous carbon-monoxide fumes.

The Doubletree Grand resort on South Roosevelt Blvd. was evacuated as a precaution Wednesday after the guests were overcome by some type of fume. Those guests who did not choose to check out were placed in other Key West area hotels, while investigators tried to get to the bottom of the fumes incident.

When you check into a hotel like that or an older hotel, you typically worry about things like fire detection and suppression. Fumes or carbon monoxide are probably the last things on peoples minds.....

How terribly sad! and what a horrible thing for the father to have to go through at this holiday season.

DH and I stayed at the Doubletree Grand in Key West in October 2004, while on a trip to Florida and trying to outrun the big hurricane (successfully)!! The hotel was, IIRC, newly opened at the time. You really don't expect to have to worry about such things in a new building. As Cruise Cat said, one is more likely to think about fire escapes and such, but not about carbon monoxide poisoning.
