    Information about Honolulu

We are planning a cruise to Hawaii and will be flying in 3 days before and staying 2 days after...

Can someone please tell must see?

    Any Good place to snorkel?

Mom and Pop places to eat that would be reasonable?

We are staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village...Places close to there to eat that are reasonable?

Are there places close to this hotel that we can park our car that would be free parking?

Are there any good Luau's in this area that anyone can recommend?

    Thank you

IMHO, don't miss the Arizona Memorial. If you don't do anything else, do that! Also, a drive up to Diamond Head is awesome. You can stop at many beaches along the way to stick your toes in the water or to watch the surfers. There is also a huge huge huge flea market on Wednesdays by the Arizona. Lots of good buys there!

Parking is horrible in Honolulu. It will cost you everywhere you go in the major area of Honolulu. Most hotels have a park by the day charge with in and out privileges.

We found the food to be a little on the expensive side compared to home at every place we ate. We just sucked it up and ate wherever we wanted and paid the price.

That's what I can help with, hopefully someone else will come along with more info for you.

When is your cruise? Which ship?

IF you have some time, here is a link to the trip report that I did back in May of 08.

Hi, I'll include the places to see that Hanna has mentioned plus others.
    Must see places:

    1. Arizona Memorial,
    2. Honolulu City Tour, with Punch Bowl Cemetery,
    3. Polynesian Cultural Center,
    4. Circle The Island Tour
    5. Flea Market at the Aloha Stadium on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
    6. Aloha Tower.
    7. Drive into Diamond Head Crater. You can park and hike to the crater's rim. Once there, you'll get a nice 360 degree view of Honolulu and Waikiki. Do the hike if you're younger

There are two good places for Luau's, Germaine's, and Paradise Cove, which are a good distance away west of Pearl Harbor. There is also the Waikiki Starlight Luau at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Here are the websites for each Luau.
Official Germaine's Luau Web site. The Original Hawaiian Luau - "Too Good to miss."
Paradise Cove Luau - Hawaii's Best Luau
Waikiki Starlight Luau at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa

Hanauma Bay is a very good for snorkeling.

I really can't help with Mom and Pop eateries.

We also stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and ate at Benihana's in the Village, TGI Friday's nearby, and a popular restaurant for Ribs whose name escapes me now.

At the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel, you can go on an underwater adventure on Atlantis Submarine. It starts right at your hotel.
I've been to Hawaii many times and I can tell you, you do not need a rental car on Oahu, which is the island Honolulu and Waikiki is located. Public transportation is extremely good, buses are the way to go and a taxi from and back to the airport is convenient. You pay to park at every hotel in Hawaii and it's expensive. There is no free parking.
You may find the following link on Oahu Activities helpful. Enjoy your time in Oahu.

    Hope this helps.

We are booked on the POA for 01/15/2011.

We will be staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village 3 days before the cruise and 2 days after. (We have a nephew that manages a Hilton in Ohio...Or else we would never be able to stay there)...
I'm sure I will have many more questions as we get closer to January.

Now all I have to do is keep searching for our flights..

Tuesday a flight was 545.00 and today it is 700-900...

Thank you all for great info!

Glad I came by here as I'm about to post a thread about the Arizona Memorial (that it's reopening in December).

I have stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village twice. My first time in Hawaii in 1990 while on a tour (three islands in 9 days!) and then for our honeymoon in 1995. That second time we were upgraded to an incredible room in the corner in the rainbow tower...amazing view, most likely because they knew we were on our honeymoon. I think we just did local places for a few of our meals and we were the guests of my hubby's aunt at the Fort for dinner one night (she and her friends would winter in Honolulu every year). You can also walk (unless you're not mobile) north to the Aloha Market place (maybe there's a "tower" in that name). Some eateries are there. It's next to the cruise terminal where we were docked on the Island Princess in 2005.

There's a lot to see in Honolulu, including the sites already mentioned. I enjoyed the Bishop Museum. The Punchbowl Cemetery is very interesting -- I remember there's a memorial to one of the Hawaiian native sons who had lost his life on the Challenger. Also one for Ernie Pyle, who was one of the best known WWII reporters. Pearl Harbor is a must.

On my first time, we went on the side trip to the Polynesian Culture Center. It's about a 75-minute drive (IIRC) to the northeast area of Oahu. There's various exhibits in the daytime and two different types of dinners (one is a luau). Plus the nighttime show.

Thank you everyone. We love to walk so we will be walking to as many places as possible.

We want to stay at the old mom and pop places to eat because I feel the food is good and more reasonable.

I'm sure I will have more questions in the future..
