    Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay

Found a site while surfing, and thought I would share - It is from a tour company which offere, among other things, what looks like it would be an utterly fabulous snorkeling excursion at Hanauma Bay.

Hanauma Bay is a spectacular curved formation within an ancient volcanic crater and with a beautiful beach lined with swaying palm trees, a gorgeous reef system containing pristine Coral formations, an abundance of colorful tropical fish all of which provides one phenomenal snorkeling experience!
Hanauma Bay is like swimming in an aquarium and is perfect for most ages and fitness levels. The clear, calm water offers an excellent opportunity to observe numerous species of brightly colored fish and possibly sea turtles or dolphins. Due to the protection of the narrow mouth of the cove and the prodigious reef, it would be difficult to find a place that feels safer to snorkel.

Here's the desription of their tour, from the above cited website, where some great photos are available.

The number of visitors in Hanauma Bay is controlled, as is the parking; therefore, our tour makes your trip there comfortable, easy, and hassle free. This excursion, as long as reserved well in advance, will ensure your entrance to this fantastic snorkeling spot is guaranteed.

The tour begins with a pick up at your Hotel and Resort, or from a short 10 minute drive from the Port for Cruise Ship arrivals. The drive from Honolulu in a comfortable air conditioned van to the Bay is approximately 10 miles from Waikiki Beach. On the way to the snorkeling location our guides are extremely informative, pointing out distinctive landmarks and relating local knowledge.

There is a $5.00 admission fee and upon entering there is a brief video explaining the importance of preserving this living reef environment. Complete snorkeling equipment is provided including detailed instruction of the use. You will receive a map with directions to the best spots for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, along with a fish ID chart.

Following a short, easy walk to the beach from the Information Center you will be ready to enter the fascinating underwater world awaiting for your viewing enjoyment. (Be careful not to step on the coral) While snorkeling ensure to take an occasional break to relax on the beach and enjoy the wonderful views of the steep Hawaii Mountains circling the Bay, the view is a real treat!
